Founded by filmmakers and journalists Fabian Chaundy and Bethany Bell, ENLIGHTENED PICTURES focuses on the creation of documentaries, films, podcasts and other multimedia projects.
Based in Vienna, Austria, Enlightened Pictures brings together Bethany and Fabian’s years of experience working as a foreign correspondent and cameraman production team for BBC News, as well as for other international organisations, NGOs and private clients.

Bethany Bell – Producer & Journalist
Bethany Bell has been a Foreign Correspondent for the BBC since 2001.
She has reported for the BBC from more than 30 countries: throughout Europe, the Middle East and the United States. She was a member of the BBC team covering the outbreak of the coronavirus in Italy. Bethany has also reported extensively on the migrant crisis in Europe. During the Arab Uprising and its aftermath, she spent long periods in Egypt and the Middle East. In 2006, she was part of the BBC team that won an International Emmy Award for the coverage of the Israel-Lebanon conflict. She has followed the Iranian nuclear issue since 2003, and frequently reports on Austrian politics, history and culture. She is a regular contributor to Radio 4’s From Our Own Correspondent.
Bethany is the Senior Producer and Editor of UNHCR’s podcast Awake at Night which won Silver at the British Podcasting Awards 2019.
She has moderated high-level panels and events for a number of different organisations, including UNESCO, the Italian and Austrian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the OSCE, the University of Oxford and the University of Vienna.
Fabian Chaundy - Filmmaker & Editor
Fabian Chaundy is a filmmaker based in Vienna, Austria. He regularly works for the foreign news division of the BBC, as well as other respected international broadcasters, organisations and corporations.
For the BBC, he has covered many stories including the outbreak of the coronavirus in Italy and Europe’s migrant crisis. He has also worked with Bethany in creating digital features for the BBC website which have had millions of views.
Fabian, who is multi-lingual, has worked in different areas of media production since 2007 – from development to post production – in both TV and radio. His first steps in media came as a scriptwriter for a major TV broadcaster in Latin America, after he completed his degree in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia, UK.
Later, he moved on to working in one of Soho’s busiest post-production houses in London, where he gained valuable knowledge in editing. Simultaneously, his passion for music helped him complement his skills with a solid knowledge of sound engineering and audio production.
